Honey Whipped Cream Cheese Recipe (Smooth and Spreadable)
Creamy honey whipped cream cheese is a two-ingredient spread that has a natural touch of sweetness and works just as well at breakfast as it does on an afternoon snack board.

Sweet cream cheese breakfast spread
One of my top ten go-to spreads for entertaining is honey whipped cream cheese and it couldn’t be easier to make. It takes just minutes to prepare, pairs well with both sweet and savory foods, and is always one of the first things to disappear.
Spread it on homemade New York-style bagels, flaky old-fashioned biscuits, toast, or English muffins for breakfast. Use it to top savory homemade crackers with sweet or spicy jam, or add slices of leftover turkey or ham for a quick snack. You can also dress it up with your favorite toppings and serve it as part of a brunch spread or snack board.
Make a batch of homemade strawberry jalapeño jam, small batch blueberry compote, or spiced pear chutney to pair with this sweet cream cheese spread for a real treat. And if you want to make other varieties of condiments in the kitchen, be sure to try my simple Dijon mustard, creamy horseradish mayo, and simple spicy aioli from scratch recipes too.
Recipe ingredients
- Cream Cheese: Block cream cheese is the best choice for this recipe. It has a richer texture and whips up thicker and creamier than the spreadable varieties sold in tubs.
- Honey: Any honey will work, but the flavor will be noticeable in the finished spread. Mild clover honey creates a classic flavor, while wildflower and darker honeys contribute a more pronounced honey taste.
- Salt: Optional, but recommended. A small pinch balances the sweetness and enhances the flavor of both the honey and cream cheese.

How to make honey whipped cream cheese
Step 1: Place the cream cheese, honey, and salt (if using) in a medium mixing bowl.
Step 2: Using a hand mixer, beat the ingredients together until they are fully combined.
Step 3: Stop and scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed to make sure all of the honey is fully blended into the cream cheese.
Step 4: Continue beating until the mixture is smooth and fluffy. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to use.
Top tips
- Adjust the Sweetness: Honey varieties differ in flavor and sweetness. Mix the spread first, then taste it before deciding whether you’d like to add a little more honey.
- Make Ahead: A few hours in the refrigerator allows the honey and cream cheese flavors to meld together, making this a great make-ahead spread for breakfasts, brunches, and gatherings.
- Create Flavor Variations: Stir in fruit preserves, citrus zest, cinnamon, or finely chopped herbs after mixing to create custom versions of the spread for different occasions.
- Rest Before Serving: Chilled cream cheese spreads firm up in the refrigerator. Letting the spread rest at room temperature for a few minutes makes it easier to spread on bagels, biscuits, toast, and crackers.
