The Best Savory Dip Recipe You’ll Ever Make || Quick And Easy Buffalo Or BBQ Style

Savory dip is the perfect snack food for chilly evenings. Whip up a batch of one of these great dip recipes, and settle in for the night with a good movie or your favorite board game.

I’ve even served this delicious treat in lieu of dinner. Simply skip the tortilla chips or crackers that are typically served with dip, and serve up a loaf of toasted Italian bread or a baguette, and this dip becomes dinner worthy for sure. But we’ll talk more about serving these delicious savory dips for dinner later.

It makes no difference whether you choose buffalo or honey bbq style chicken, these dips take only minutes to make. I’m not gonna lie, most often I just make them both.

Choosing The Chicken For Your Savory Dip

When it comes to choosing the chicken you’re going to use to make your dip the skies the limit. You can use either breasts or thighs that you’ve cooked off in the oven. This is a tasty choice, but not really my favorite.

However, it is a nice way to use up leftovers if you have them. And I’ve made my dip this way many times.

Chicken breasts and/or thighs prepared in a slow cooker is actually an excellent way to prepare the chicken for your dip. When you cook your chicken this way it falls apart quite easily and if you use broth to cook it in, it enhances the flavor as well.

So, the next time you’re preparing some chicken in a slow cooker, go ahead and toss in a few extra pieces and make yourself some dip.

Perhaps the easiest, albeit least economical way to go when choosing chicken for your dip is to just pick up a rotisserie chicken at your local market. That’s what I’ll be doing when preparing dips for this post as I haven’t cooked anything ahead of time.

And while it is not my favorite choice, as far as quality and economy are concerned, it is a tasty choice for sure.

Buffalo vs Honey BBQ

When I first began making savory chicken dip, I used to make buffalo wing style dip every time. I never tired of it. It’s just a particularly tasty dip, and most people like it a lot.

But I found that when I made it for a gathering, whether it was one I was putting on or one I was attending, there would always be at least a few people there who weren’t fond of spicy foods.

That’s how the honey bbq version of chicken savory dip was birthed in my kitchen one afternoon. I wanted to have options for everyone. And this dip was the perfect choice to reach that goal.

It seems that every person alive likes one or the other version of these savory chicken dips, most like both. And when I make it at home having two choices allows me to switch it up, which is a good thing. Everybody loves a little variety in their life.

If you’re interested in making your own homemade bbq sauce to use in your dip recipe, I’ve got a great recipe for it on the blog.

How To Serve Savory Dips

There are so many ways to serve these savory dips. When serving them at a get-together, I usually stick with crackers, tortilla chips, or celery sticks. Most often I do a combination of crackers and celery sticks. It seems these choices last well on a serving table and most people enjoy them.

At home, the skies the limit. It really depends on what I have in the house. I’ve used sliced bell peppers, carrot sticks, and cucumber rounds. These choices are perfect for when you want to skip the extra carbs.

You can trade out the crackers and tortilla chips quite nicely for pretzels, potato chips, bagel chips, or corn chips.

Turn Your Savory Dip Into A Savory Dinner

It’s totally possible to turn either one of these savory dip dishes into a full meal. This is a great option for those who find themselves craving a savory buffalo or honey bbq chicken dip but don’t want to eat both dinner and this very hearty snack in one evening.

crackers stuck in handmade savory dip

There are several ways to turn these dips into a meal. The quickest way is to serve them with toasted, crusty bread or rolls. Both Italian bread and baguettes are particularly suited for this option. Simply slather the top of the toasted bread with dip and eat it open face style. So darn yummy.

The other options are not quite as quick, but they are definitely just as easy. You can toss a few potatoes in the oven, and then top them with savory chicken dip when they’re fully baked.

Or make yourself a batch of handmade french fries and serve them up with a generous helping of savory chicken dip on top.

Every one of these options makes for some deeply satisfying comfort food.

What To Do With Leftover Dip

I’m not gonna lie, this dip is at it’s very best when it’s served hot. I often cut the recipe in half and bake it in a smaller pan for that very reason. Doing this makes enough dip to serve two people, so that’s perfect in this house.

Of course when making it for a gathering you can double, or triple the batch to make enough for your particular needs. Just keep in mind that the portion size needed for gatherings is much smaller than what the average person will eat sitting at home watching a movie or playing a board game. And it is much less than someone is going to eat for dinner for sure.

You can store leftover savory dip in the refrigerator. And it can absolutely be served up cold if you like it that way. It’s pretty tasty. But I will say that most often I reheat mine before I serve it again. It really is better that way.

These dips will last in the refrigerator for about a week on average. I find it pretty hard to believe that anyone has ever had one stick around that long though!
