  • DIJON MUSTARD – If it’s important to you that this recipe remain vegan, then be sure to buy a vegan dijon mustard. Some dijon mustards use white wine in their recipe instead of vinegar. And the filters used in the ‘fining’ process of producing the wine are not always plant based.
  • OLIVE OIL – A good quality olive oil is recommended for this vegan honey mustard recipe. Use extra virgin olive oil if you can.
  • MAPLE SYRUP – Pure maple syrup should be used to make this dressing.
  • LEMON JUICE – Fresh lemon juice is best for this recipe. I keep fresh frozen lemon juice in the freezer at all times for just this purpose.
  • GARLIC POWDER, ONION POWDER, AND SALT – Always use the freshest, highest quality seasonings available to you for the best results in the kitchen.

Where’s The Honey?

Real honey is technically not a vegan product. It is produced by living bees. And most vegans do not include it in their diet.

This makes it necessary to add the sweet element of this recipe through the use of a different product. There are plenty of options available. My favorite is real maple syrup. So, that’s the route I took.

You can also use a vegan honey alternative in place of honey. This is made in several different ways, none of which involve bees. Or you can replace the honey with agave syrup, brown rice syrup, date syrup, molasses, or barley malt syrup if you prefer.

The idea is to use a product in place of the actual honey that will make the recipe sweet like a traditional honey mustard sauce. Which product you choose is a matter of personal preference.

How To Make Vegan Honey Mustard Dressing

This simple recipe could not be easier to make. It comes together in just minutes. And absolutely anyone can do it.

Place all of the ingredients in a small bowl. Or a mason jar if you prefer.

Ways To Use This Dressing

The uses for this delicious dressing are pretty endless. Let’s face it … honey mustard goes with A LOT of things.

It’s a great dipping sauce. French fries, vegan chicken nuggets, tofu nuggets, raw veggies, onion rings, roasted veggies, and just about anything else you can imagine is a bit better when dipped in a little honey mustard.

My personal favorite is sweet potato fries. Experiment a bit and find out what your favorite is.

The tangy flavor of this dressing makes a really great topping for a sandwich too. Slather a bit on veggie burgers; black bean, garden veggie, and portobello are all good choices. You can also top a vegan chicken sandwich with it if you like.

And be sure to give it a try in your favorite vegan wraps. A little of this tasty creamy dressing is a great choice for all of your favorite salads too.

Variations For This Recipe

If you want to switch the recipe up a little every once in awhile, there are a lot of ways to do just that. We already covered some ways for you to change how you sweeten this dressing.

But there are other variations you can give a try if you like. You can use a vegan mayonnaise in place of the olive oil. It will make the dressing a bit creamier.

Or you can swap out the dijon mustard for a different variety. As you can imagine there are endless choices here. Try some spicy brown mustard, dill mustard, or champagne mustard. You could even give some good old fashioned yellow mustard a shot.

Just be sure to check the ingredients on the mustard you use, if you want to maintain vegan status for your dressing. A little nutritional yeast added to this recipe will give it a umami boost. It’s really pretty fabulous.

And a pinch of cayenne pepper goes a long way in giving this dressing a bit of a kick. You can also omit the olive oil, if you just want to make the dressing thicker for dipping. Honestly, it’s quite thick already though.

You can also go heavier on the oil, if you want to thin it out some to be more like the consistency of salad dressing.

How To Store Vegan Honey Mustard Dressing

This vegan honey mustard sauce made as the recipe calls for, without any substitutions, will last in an airtight container on the counter for up to two weeks.

It will last longer if it is refrigerated. If it starts to separate on you, just whisk it together well before you use it and you’ll be good to go!
