Fresh squeezed lemonade with a bright citrus flavor and the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness. Served ice cold, this refreshing homemade drink is a summertime classic that's ready in just minutes.
Combine 2 cups water and the sugar in a small saucepan. Heat on medium-low, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from the heat and cool to room temperature.
Pour the cooled syrup into a large pitcher and stir in the remaining 4 cups water.
Roll the lemons on the countertop, cut them in half, and juice them through a fine-mesh strainer into the pitcher.
Remove the seeds from the strainer and return the lemon pulp to the pitcher.
Stir well to combine.
Pour over ice and garnish with a lemon slice, if desired.
Notes
Freshly squeezed lemon juice provides the best flavor. Bottled lemon juice is not recommended.
Chill the lemonade thoroughly before serving for the most refreshing flavor.
Stir before serving, as the lemon pulp will naturally settle to the bottom of the pitcher.
Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
For a honey-sweetened variation, substitute ¾ cup mild honey for the 1 cup sugar and dissolve it in the warm water as directed.
