Notes
- Use pure pumpkin: Canned pumpkin puree works fine, just double-check that it’s 100% pure pumpkin and not pie mix.
- Choose safe milk: Unsweetened coconut milk is my go-to, but goat’s milk is a good option too.
- Keep spices minimal: A small amount of cinnamon or ginger can be used to add aroma and flavor, but the spices are optional and should be kept minimal.
- Skip the nutmeg: Nutmeg and pre-mixed pumpkin pie spice should be avoided, as they contain ingredients that are not appropriate for dogs.
- Watch the whipped cream: If you’re using store-bought, always check the label to be sure it doesn’t contain xylitol.
